New Ricoh high-speed production printer brings users new levels of substrate flexibility, book-printing options

ORLANDO (GRAPH EXPO 16, Booth #2035), September 26, 2016 – Ricoh USA, Inc. today unveiled the RICOH Pro 8220s series, its latest high-speed black and white digital print platform series. Today’s production print environments, especially those focused on book printing, benefit from and often require flexibility. The need to meet fast turn times and shifting deadlines, and have the ability to print on thick and coated media for attractive color inserts to illustrate key points, can help printers find the capacity to take on new jobs quickly and efficiently.

The RICOH Pro 8220s series addresses these needs by offering tight registration and a new High Capacity Interposer (HCI). The HCI is a two-tray system with 1,750-sheet-per-tray capacity for post-fusing insertion of front and back covers or color inserts, printed on offset or digital printers, into books and manuals. The RICOH Pro 8220s series also offers users tight registration to help ensure more precise, clean output and delivers the ability to print on a wide variety of substrates without sacrificing speed or quality.

“Production print operations are defined by what they produce, their ability to meet deadlines and fulfill job requirements,” said John Fulena, Vice President, Production Printing Business Group, Ricoh USA, Inc. “The RICOH Pro 8220s series empowers printers to produce a wide variety of applications very quickly and efficiently by eliminating manual steps, making scanning quick and simple and making adding covers and inserts swift and hands-off. This is a device for the future of high-speed production.”

Aside from high print (96 to 136 ppm) and scan speeds on 8.27 x 11.69 inches (120 ipm simplex, 220 ipm duplex), the HCI automatically adds covers and inserts within jobs, saving significant time and labor investments. Meanwhile, the RICOH Pro 8220s series maintains its outstanding 1,200 x 4,800 dpi VCSEL quality on a wide variety of media, including coated media, up to 350 gsm simplex and 256 duplex, and is capable of long sheet printing up to 27.5 inches. The multifunction printer (MFP) models’ Single Pass Document Feeder (SPDF) has similar media capabilities, scanning in full color at 220 ipm duplex, a high watermark for scanning in the industry.

The RICOH Pro 8220s series is available in six models with various speeds to suit users’ individual needs. The series’ durable design and Ricoh’s Trained Customer Replaceable Unit (TCRU) program work together to help ensure maximum uptime for what is sure to be a workhorse press for many operations.
